Overview of Your 3-Day Krabi Itinerary

Discover breathtaking beaches, temples, hot springs, and sunsets on your three-day Krabi adventure.

For optimal weather conditions and the best attractions, plan your visit between November and March.

Ensure a comfortable trip by packing light clothing, sunscreen, insect repellent, and sturdy hiking shoes.

How to Get to Krabi

The most efficient way to reach Krabi is by air. Krabi Airport (KBV) provides direct flights from Bangkok and other major cities in Thailand such as Chiang Mai. You can also make connecting flights to various parts of Asia including Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.

If you’re traveling from Phuket, the flight duration is approximately 1.5 hours, offering a convenient and cost-effective travel option.

Upon arrival at Krabi Airport, you have the choice between a shared van or private transfer to your accommodation.

Opting for the shared van, I found it surprisingly comfortable with its leather seats and well-air-conditioned interior. The journey to our hostel took around 30 minutes, with drop-off directly at the doorstep, all for just 90 Baht!

In scenarios where you travel from Phuket first, consider taking the shared van from the bus terminals to Krabi.

Phuket has two bus terminals, and the journey takes about 3 hours. However, note that the bus terminal might be distant from most accommodations, requiring a cab ride or a walk. The shared van service costs 140 Baht.

For those staying in Ao Nang, the process is quite similar. Take the shared van from the airport to Ao Nang for a slightly higher price of 110 Baht.

If you’re traveling from Phuket, inform the receptionist that you’re headed to Ao Nang, as the two locations are in close proximity.

Alternatively, you can reach Krabi by ferry if arriving from the islands. From Koh Phi Phi, you have the option of taking a ferry to Krabi (Ao Nang), departing from Tonsai Pier and arriving at Nopparat Thara Pier. This ferry ride lasts about two hours, with multiple departures each day.

How to Get Around Krabi

One of the most popular ways to navigate Krabi is by participating in organized tours. Such tours provide both convenience and an immersive exploration experience.

Alternatively, you have the option of utilizing taxis, Grab Cars, and tuk-tuks, readily available in the Ao Nang area near the pier.

For those seeking a more adventurous experience, renting a motorbike offers a sense of independence and flexibility.

Numerous rental agencies can be found throughout Ao Nang and Krabi Town, with rental prices typically ranging from 260 to 310 THB per day, equivalent to around $10.

Renting a motorbike allows you to discover the region at your own pace and access remote destinations like the Tiger Cave Temple, situated a bit further from Ao Nang.

Best Time to Visit Krabi

The best time to visit Krabi and the Southern Thailand region typically falls within the dry season, which lasts from November to April.

During this time, Krabi boasts delightful weather conditions characterized by clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and reduced humidity levels.

It’s a favored time recommended by travel experts for exploring the area’s famous limestone cliffs, pristine beaches, and diverse marine ecosystems.

While the peak tourist season aligns from December to February, offering prime conditions for outdoor adventures like rock climbing, island hopping, and snorkeling, travelers can still relish favorable weather during the shoulder months of November and April.

Nevertheless, it’s crucial to monitor local weather updates and remain aware of potential fluctuations in weather patterns. Keep in mind, intermittent brief rain showers may occur, even amid the dry season.

The Perfect 3 Days Krabi Itinerary

Having covered the essentials, let’s dive into this comprehensive Krabi itinerary. I will outline each day, highlighting must-do activities and recommending unforgettable day trips.

Day 1 of Your 3 Days in Krabi Itinerary

Commence your 3-day Krabi itinerary by making your way to the picturesque coastal town of Ao Nang from the airport.

Ao Nang serves as the perfect starting point for your journey, allowing you to explore the stunning beaches of Southern Thailand.

Prepare to be captivated by the pristine white sand beaches and towering limestone cliffs of Railay Beach, offering awe-inspiring views of the Andaman Sea.

Here’s how to make the most of the first day of your Krabi itinerary.

Arriving in Ao Nang

Ao Nang acts as an excellent hub for discovering Krabi and is an ideal location for a vibrant evening out.

To reach Ao Nang from the airport, you have the option of taking a taxi, boarding a songthaew, or opting for a shuttle bus. I recommend the latter for convenience.

Upon arriving and checking into your accommodation, head towards the renowned Railay Beach and its stunning Phra Nang Beach. Just a quick long-tail boat ride away.

Tickets are priced at 800 THB return per person, but you can reduce this cost by joining a group boat ride, potentially bringing it down to 200 THB return.

Isolated by limestone cliffs and accessible solely by boat, Railay Beach stands as a highlight that should not be missed on any Krabi itinerary.

Hang Out at Railay Beach

An essential highlight to include in your 3-day Krabi itinerary is Railay Beach, offering one of the best experiences here!

Purchase your tickets at the Ao Nang Pier, where you’ll find two ticket offices conveniently located at each end of the beach. After acquiring your tickets, a short 20-minute long-tail boat ride will transport you to Railay.

Upon arrival, you’ll find yourself at either Railay East or West. If you land on the western side, take the opportunity to relax on the pristine beach, soak up the sun, and savor a drink at one of the nearby cafes. This area boasts exceptional beauty and tranquility.

Alternatively, if you arrive at Railay East, consider strolling to Railay West for a delightful time or venture towards Phra Nang Beach. Another remarkable coastal gem.

Both destinations are easily reachable on foot, so make sure to explore them as they are in close proximity.

For the adventurous souls, rock climbing in Railay Beach provides an exhilarating option to test your skills.

When lunchtime arrives, make your way to one of the beachfront restaurants offering an array of seafood delicacies and refreshing beverages. Make sure to check Hawkeye and Flame Tree Restaurant, as both consistently deliver fantastic dining experiences.

Post-lunch, unwind under the sun or take a siesta in the shade of a palm tree. Should you still have energy to spare, conclude your day with a trek to the Railay Viewpoint, where you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring vistas of the beach and its surrounding islands.

krabi travel itinerary

A word of caution, though. Exercise caution around the monkeys at Railay Beach, as they are known to be mischievous and might attempt to pilfer your belongings. Additionally, if you plan to ascend the viewpoint, ensure you wear appropriate footwear.

Having relished the delights of Railay on the first day of your Krabi itinerary, return to Ao Nang for a delightful dinner to cap off your day.

Conclude the Evening in Ao Nang

Following your day at Railay Beach, return to Ao Nang for an evening filled with excitement.

Ao Nang exudes a vibrant ambiance, teeming with numerous restaurants, shops, and the renowned Ao Nang Krabi Night Market.

Start by relishing the breathtaking sunset views. A picture-perfect moment worthy of your Instagram feed!

Afterwards, venture to the bustling night markets to sample delectable Thai street food while perusing unique souvenirs and trinkets. Don’t miss the chance to taste durian, a local delicacy!

Conclude your night by savoring cocktails by the beachfront or dancing the night away at one of the spirited bars.

If these options don’t quite pique your interest, consider this final and thrilling activity!

Attend a Muay Thai Match

After witnessing a spectacular sunset, elevate your evening with a dose of exhilaration by attending a Muay Thai match!

The electrifying atmosphere within the packed arena will have you on the edge of your seat as fighters showcase their expertise through punches, kicks, elbows, and knees.

Witness their remarkable agility and strength as they maneuver around the ring. With each strike, the audience erupts in cheers and applause, showing support for their favored fighter.

I can hardly think of a more captivating activity to conclude the first night on your Krabi 3 days 2 nights itinerary.

Day 2 of Your 3 Days in Krabi Itinerary

Embark on a day of island-hopping and excitement during the second day of your 3-day Krabi itinerary!

This island-hopping adventure will transport you to four exquisite islands nestled in the Andaman Sea. These include Koh Poda, Koh Gai (Chicken Island), Tup Island, and Railay Beach.

Prepare to be mesmerized by the stunning vistas of crystal-clear waters and pristine white sandy beaches framed by towering limestone cliffs.

krabi 3d2n itinerary blog

Whether indulging in swimming or snorkeling in the azure waters or simply unwinding on the beach with a refreshing beverage, the experience promises relaxation and awe.

While the 4-island tour stands as a must-do activity, I’ll present an equally fantastic day trip alternative for your second day in Krabi.

Strolling Along the Pier

Commence your day by taking a leisurely walk along the Krabi pier. Facing east, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the sunrise over the mangrove forest located on the opposite side.

Adorned with famous crab sculptures and various decorative elements, the pier attracts numerous morning runners every day.

As you make your way back to your accommodation, grab a sandwich from the nearby Family Mart or make a quick pit stop at a cafe or restaurant of your preference in the vicinity.

Anticipating a bustling day ahead, fuel up with coffee, savor that bite to eat, and let the adventure begin!

Next, you can choose between two options. Pick the one that suits you best:

Join the 7-Island Tour

The renowned 7-island tour stands out as a must-do activity in Krabi. It offers a remarkable way to explore the coastline and create lasting memories alongside fellow travelers.

Commencing your journey, you’ll be ferried to Railay Beach via a traditional longtail boat, setting a charming and authentic tone for the adventure.

The excursion kicks off with a visit to the enchanting Railay Beach, followed by a venture to the coral-rich paradise of Koh Yawasam. Here, immerse yourself in snorkeling to witness the vibrant marine life, an experience not to be overlooked.

Next on the itinerary is a stop at Chicken Island, known for its distinctive chicken-shaped formation, eliciting laughter and delight from all visitors.

Additionally, you’ll traverse the sandbar linking Tub and Mor Islands, offering a unique and picturesque experience.

The journey continues with a visit to Koh Tan Ming. It is an excellent spot for snorkeling before culminating in a delectable BBQ dinner on the beach of Koh Poda.

The evening crescendos with a mesmerizing swim alongside bioluminescent plankton at Koh Raeng, delivering another unforgettable highlight!

By the conclusion of this adventure, you’ll likely feel satiated, content, and perhaps a bit salty. Yet, isn’t that precisely what adventure is all about?

Phi Phi Islands Speedboat Day Tour

The Phi Phi Islands have emerged as a quintessential island destination in Southeast Asia and a premier attraction in Krabi province. Embark on this tour to immerse yourself in their beauty while enjoying a day full of excitement.

Your journey commences with a morning speedboat excursion departing Krabi at approximately 9 am, swiftly transporting you to the Phi Phi Islands.

Your first stop will be Pileh Lagoon, offering an opportunity to snorkel amidst colorful fish and vibrant coral reefs. Following that, you’ll visit Maya Bay, famously featured in “The Beach” movie.

This stunning location provides an ideal setting to relax, bask in the sun, and relish the beauty of the surroundings.

Your guide will lead you to Koh Pai, boasting picturesque beaches and crystal-clear waters.

Additionally, you’ll explore Viking Cave and Monkey Beach, where you can admire towering cliffs. If you’re fortunate enough, you can catch a glimpse of the playful monkeys.

The entire excursion promises a laid-back atmosphere. It allows you to snorkel in splendid locations, savor breathtaking views, and indulge in a delicious Thai lunch at Phi Phi Cliff Beach Resort.

All snorkeling gear is provided, and the tour offers convenient hotel transfers, eliminating any concerns about transportation to and from the location.

If you’re seeking adventure and a day immersed in exploring some of the most captivating spots in Krabi, this tour is undeniably a fantastic choice.

Plus, the added perk of cruising on a speedboat enhances the experience even more!

Experience the Sunset at Ao Nang Beach

As your second day of this 3-day Krabi itinerary draws to a close, Ao Nang Beach emerges as the ideal location to conclude your day.

The ambiance at Ao Nang Beach at sunset is truly enchanting. Delight in the stunning beachscape, witness the sun gracefully descending below the horizon, and bask in the warmth of the fading sunlight.

krabi 3 days 2 nights itinerary

While I haven’t frequented all the bars in Krabi Town, there’s one particular establishment I highly recommend—Booze Bar. Boasting a friendly staff, live music, and inviting vibes, this bar offers everything needed for a perfect evening out.

There are also Noori India, known for its exceptional service and mouthwatering dishes. And Pyramids Restaurant, offering a fusion of Arabic and Thai cuisine. These are my personal favorites.

Day 3 of Your 3 Days in Krabi Itinerary

On your last day, venture beyond Ao Nang to explore captivating activities and unique sights that abound in the surrounding areas.

Discover the renowned Tiger Cave Temple with its scenic viewpoint, unwind at the tranquil Krabi hot springs, and marvel at the beauty of the stunning Emerald Pool.

krabi city tour itinerary

While you can opt to rent a scooter or hire a taxi for transportation, I personally suggest joining a day trip for a hassle-free experience.

The day tour typically spans about 10 hours, encompassing the entire day. Should you choose to rent a scooter or travel independently, expect a similar timeframe, ensuring a day filled with thrilling adventures!

Here’s how to craft the perfect third day for your 3-day Krabi itinerary:

Indulge in the Krabi Hot Springs

Commence your day by unwinding at Klong Thom Hot Springs. A natural hot spring in Krabi renowned for its soothing properties. An ideal way to kickstart your morning.

Adjacent to the hot springs, a man-made pool has been constructed to accommodate more visitors seeking relaxation amidst the picturesque surroundings. Immerse yourself in the serenity of the hot springs, surrounded by verdant greenery, offering a serene escape.

When you opt for a day trip, enjoy the convenience of complimentary transportation to and from Ao Nang.

Alternatively, if you’re driving from Krabi Town or Ao Nang Beach, head east to access the hot springs.

Note that the hot springs are situated approximately 50km from Krabi City. Exercise caution if you’re driving in Thailand for the first time.

Remember to bring 100 Baht per person for the entrance fee and an additional 10 Baht for parking. If you plan to visit the Emerald Pool, allocate an extra 200 Baht for admission.

Dive into the Emerald Pool

Following a blissful time at the hot springs, venture just 10km away to the captivating Emerald Pool, easily accessible with a guided tour.

This natural pool boasts water that appears to have been tinged with emerald hues. A stunning effect attributed to the water’s mineral composition.

Nestled within Thung Teao Forest Natural Park, the Emerald Pool is a must-visit attraction. Consider exploring the park if you have additional time. Note that the entrance fee stands at 200 Baht for individual visits.

Opt for a morning excursion to make the most of your visit under the radiant sun. Delight in a refreshing dip in the pool, take a leisurely stroll through the jungle, and appreciate the peaceful ambiance enveloping the area.

Doesn’t this plan sound perfect before ascending the Tiger Cave Temple?

Hiking at Wat Tham Sua or Tiger Cave Temple

Be prepared for a more physically demanding trek compared to Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint when tackling the hike at Wat Tham Sua or Tiger Cave Temple.

While I don’t aim to intimidate you, reaching the summit will undoubtedly reward you with a breathtaking view of the temple perched atop the rugged limestone hill.

At the temple’s base, various attractions await, including an artificial waterfall, a cafeteria, and temples.

The highlight, however, lies atop the temple, accessible via a 1,200-step staircase. Note: This climb is not suitable for all travelers due to its physical demands.

Morning visits are advisable for a cooler climate and gentler sunlight compared to the scorching tropical conditions in the afternoon. The ascent typically takes around 20-40 minutes.

To combat dehydration, carry a water bottle, although you’ll find a water station at the temple’s summit for refills.

Upon arrival, remember to remove your shoes for temple exploration. You could easily spend around 45 minutes admiring the panoramic views from the top.

Exercise caution around the monkeys, refraining from touching or feeding them, especially near mothers with offspring.

Don’t forget to pack a reusable water bottle and immerse yourself in the temple’s surroundings, including the artificial waterfall, the inviting cafeteria, and the exquisite temple grounds.

Embark on a Scenic Boat Journey Along Khao Khanap Nam

During your stay in Krabi town, seize the opportunity to explore the picturesque beauty of Khao Khanap Nam. An impressive duo of towering cliffs situated near the night market.

Glide along the river on a boat and treat yourself to breathtaking vistas of the majestic limestone cliffs towering above you.

Your voyage will include a stop at an archaeological site featuring a bat cave. It provides an opportunity to observe the local wildlife, including monkeys and birds.

With a well-timed journey, you’ll witness the sun setting over the river, creating an unforgettable and mesmerizing experience.

Boat Trip Details:

I had the pleasure of partaking in the 2-hour boat trip, which cost a reasonable 500 THB. An experience I wholeheartedly recommend!

Discover Krabi Town

Krabi Town serves as an excellent destination to immerse yourself in the local culture. It offers a perfect addition to your Krabi itinerary before concluding your journey.

Whether you opt for a taxi from Ao Nang or book a shuttle from various agencies in Ao Nang, the price typically hovers around 150 Baht per person.

Explore the vibrant night market, indulge in delectable Thai cuisine, and capture some memorable moments for your social media feeds. You can’t visit Thailand without sharing your escapades online!

Ensure you don’t miss the Krabi Town Weekend Night Market and the Poo Dam Night Market to savor local flavors and immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere.

Make a point to visit Wat Kaew Korawaram, where you can delve into Buddha’s stories through informative boards, albeit some explanations being solely in Thai.

Entry is free, so you can enjoy the rich cultural experience without draining your bank account.

3 Days Krabi Itinerary – FAQ

Having covered every detail for the perfect 3-day Krabi itinerary, let’s now address some common questions from first-time travelers:

How Many Days are Ideal for Exploring Krabi?

For a comprehensive exploration of Krabi’s beauty and adventures, I suggest planning a minimum stay of three days.

This duration allows ample time to discover the quaint Ao Nang town, unwind on pristine beaches, embark on island excursions, or visit attractions like the Tiger Cave Temple.

Within a three-day span, you can savor the delectable local cuisine, shop for keepsakes, and immerse yourself in the distinctive culture of southern Thailand.

Is Krabi Superior to Phuket?

Both Krabi and Phuket boast distinct allure and character, catering to varied preferences.

Krabi stands out for its breathtaking natural vistas, featuring verdant jungles, towering cliffs, and crystalline waters.

Moreover, it tends to be less congested than Phuket, making it an excellent choice for travelers seeking a relaxed and serene ambiance.

Conversely, Phuket is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, lively beaches, and a broader array of dining and entertainment offerings.

If you desire a bustling environment with abundant activities, Phuket might align better with your preferences.

Nevertheless, if you prioritize tranquility and a nature-centric experience, Krabi emerges as the preferred destination for a delightful getaway.

Spending 3 days in Krabi allows you to explore key tourist spots and sample the area’s offerings. But it might not be adequate for a comprehensive exploration of everything Krabi boasts.
